Of Yellowstone and Appendices

Sometimes trips don’t go as planned - for the better or worse! Unfortunately my latest trip to Yellowstone this week went the way of the latter. I am making this post from a hotel bed in Bozeman, Montana after an appendectomy late Monday night. A huge shoutout to the great staff at Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital who were amazing in their care and service and were quick to ask what type of photography I was doing after seeing my Lowepro bag half opened next to the hospital bed. One of my last memories before the anesthesia kicked in was the surgeon asking “Nikon or Canon?” and his nod of approval after I muttered “Sony” and made a joke about the great light in the OR.

Benjamin Olson and I got out to Yellowstone on Saturday sunset and had a good day of shooting buffalo and elk on Sunday. On Monday I woke up with what I thought was congestion in my middle abdomen but figured a coffee and a pit stop at a park latrine would clear things up. Unfortunately by noon I was doubled over and could barely get out of the car. Ben was an awesome friend and convinced me it was necessary to get to a hospital soon and drove me up to Bozeman immediately.

I’m on the mend and will be perfectly fine, but more-so bummed about spending my time in Montana in a bed. I think I got a few good shots that I”ll share below. I have swapped my lens from the 100-400 to the 200-600!
